Apiezon AP100 Grease is a silicone-free vacuum grease and lubricant, containing PTFE and exhibits extremely high levels of lubricity; It has been shown to provide 8 times the level of lubrication offered by standard, petroleum-based lubricating greases. It s unique properties means it is frequently used to protect against corrosion and abrasion, particularly under high load conditions and to prevent seizure in stopcocks, taps and small metal fastenings.
This grease helps to increase the accuracy of analytical techniques and improve yields in semiconductor manufacture by contamination avoidance. In addition, it is used for surface coating applications where silicone contamination can lead to poor surface adhesion and incomplete coating defects.
AP100 is designed for use at ambient temperatures (generally between 10 to 30 C / 50 to 86 F). If you are looking for a grease capable of performing at higher temperatures, AGY4394 Apiezon 101 or AGB7271 Apiezon H Grease may be more appropriate.
Properties:
- Anti-seize properties, making it an effective protector and lubricant in ultra-high vacuums
- Extremely high levels of lubricity
- Demonstrates an extremely low vapour pressure of 7 x 10-11 Torr at 20 C
- Recommended for use at ambient temperatures
- Does not suffer from contamination problems associated with silicone based greases such as ‘creep’ or ‘carry over’
- Easy to clean and remove using hot water and an aqueous glassware detergent or hydrocarbon solvents

Apiezon AP101 is a specialist, anti-seize vacuum grease, containing PTFE, which confers superior anti-seize properties providing glass and metal surfaces with long-lasting lubrication and protection from fusing and corrosion. It is silicon-free and is an excellent general purpose, hydrocarbon grease suitable for a variety of scientific applications. Typically, it is used to maintain the smooth operation of stopcocks and taps and is used in most laboratories.
The Grease is not limited to laboratory and glassware use and is equally effective on metal equipment which may be subject to seizure or corrosion. Just a small amount of AP101 on fastenings will ensure they are protected. It reduces sample contamination and consequently the risk of interference in analytical techniques such as infra-red and mass spectrometry. Additionally, AP101 can be used with confidence in paint spraying and metal deposition processes.
Properties:
- Ideally suited for use in low to medium vacuum ranges having a vapour pressure of <10-5 Torr at 20 C
- Anti-seize properties make it an effective protector and lubricant for metal surfaces which may be subject to seizure or corrosion
- Insoluble in most solvents and resistant to water, alcohols, ketones and esters
- Resists attack from aqueous acid and alkali solutions, alcoholic alkali solutions and corrosive gases
- Suitable for use over a wide temperature range
- Does not suffer from contamination problems associated with silicone-based greases such as ‘creep’ or ‘carry over’ due to AP101 being hydrocarbon based
- Easy to clean and remove using hot water and an aqueous glassware detergent or hydrocarbon solvents

Apiezon Compound Q is a versatile, temporary vacuum sealing medium which exhibits good vacuum properties in the lower vacuum range. It is a soft, putty like substance which is easily moulded by hand at ambient temperatures, yet firm enough to remain in position and is readily removed when no longer required. It can be used to seal around the edges of flat unground joints, to blank off parts of an apparatus temporarily or to seal glass cylinders to metal plates to produce temporary vacuum enclosures.
Apiezon Compound Q has a vapour pressure of approximately 9 x 10-5 torr at 20 C ensuring efficacious use where the vacuum requirement is not too low. With a softening point of 45 C Compound Q should be used where the site of application remains between -10 and +30 C. Care should be taken to ensure that hands and surfaces are clean in order to preserve the low vapour pressure characteristics of the product
Upon removing, any residues of the product can be washed away with warm soapy water by using any aromatic hydrocarbon solvent (toluene, xylene) or by using a vapour degreasing bath. It is not soluble in alcohols (ethanol, IPA) or ketones (acetone, MEK) so these cannot be used for cleaning
The shelf life of Apiezon Q compound is ten years from date of manufacture, providing the product is in the original unopened packaging and has been stored at ambient (10 to 30 C) temperature.

This oil is designed for use wherever a high viscosity oil is needed for sealing purposes. With low vapour pressures, these products can be used with confidence under vacuum environments and can provide an effective vacuum seal.
The main difference between the two products is in the higher viscosity of K oil compared to J oil; if a thicker oil is needed then K oil is the preferred choice.
These oils could also be used to seal fragile glassware in vibrational applications; however they are liquid and should only be used in applications where the oil would have nowhere to flow to.

The Apiezon range of waxes features three products including the Wax W, also known as Black Wax , the W100 Wax and W40 Wax. All 3 waxes in the range can be used as permanent or semi-permanent vacuum sealants or mounting media.
Apiezon waxes are equally effective at maintaining seals in vacuum systems down to 10-9 torr at 20 C (dependent on the wax) and in systems at small positive pressures. They are excellent waterproof mediums providing a total seal against liquid water and offer superior sealing against water vapour and atmospheric moisture.
Like the greases, the waxes contain a high proportion of branched and unsaturated hydrocarbons. These complex structures give a very high molecular weight and consequently strong powers of absorption, particularly for other hydrocarbon molecules. Strong absorption properties ensure that the waxes have a powerful “gettering” action, i.e. the power to absorb greasy or chemical impurities on metal and glass surfaces. Apiezon waxes have no contaminating effect on electrical equipment and are easily removed by hydrocarbon solvents, taking with it many trace impurities which are not removed by solvents alone. This has led to their extensive use in the electronics industry, where scrupulous cleanliness of metal surfaces is required.
Their excellent vapour pressure characteristics, are extremely important for a variety of applications, including thin film deposition. Volatiles will not jeopardise the vacuum within the system or contaminate thin film deposits.
These waxes are used in the manufacture of silicon transistors and integrated circuits. They are chemically inert, being resistant to etching fluids such as:
-
- HF (Hydrofluoric acid)
- HNO3 (Nitric acid)
- CH3COOH (Acetic acid)
- KOH (Potassium hydroxide)
- TMAH (Tetramethylammonium Hydroxide)
- EDP (Ethylenediamine pyrocatechol)
- NaOH (Sodium hydroxide)
