Precision Brain Punches

The new Precision Brain Punches make it possible to isolate tiny (down to 250 micron in diameter) areas out of exact locations in the brain (the Palkovits Punch technique). They are thus ideal for targeted removal of specific brain nuclei, tracts and other subdivisions.

Each punch has an electropolished sharp end for smooth cuts and minimal tissue adhesion. Punch sizes are 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75 and 2.00 ( 5%) mm. The smaller tubes are reinforced by an outer layer of concentric tubing except at the tip. Convenient handle improves aim. The handle is shaped to minimize visual obstruction and maximize punch pressure.

The nuclei are punched from frozen brain sections on glass slides and expelled into the collection media. The spring-loaded nylon expellers avoid risk of contamination that might be caused by expelling with breath. Volume of the extracted tissue can be calculated with precision based on the punch diameter and frozen section thickness.

Eight conveniently color-coded punches range from 0.25 to 2.0mm and are available as sets or individually, with or without the handle.
